Heart

Happy Valentine's Week!  This week we will introduce the heart shape.  I give the children a square and a circle, each is about 6 inches across.  I ask them to fold the circle in half, and then cut it apart on the fold line.  Their job is to make a heart out of the square, and two half circles.  One corner of the square is the bottom point of the heart.  The two halves of the circle make the rounded top parts of the heart.  The children may take the puzzle home like this so they can fix it again, or they may glue it together here at school.
We emphasize sharing, kindness, and being a good friend!
We also made a pattern with pink and red hearts.  The large heart at the top had the child's name on it.  The children patterned the hearts all the way down the white strip of paper.  When they finished, we measured the strip against them.  We cut it off at their height.  The smaller heart at the bottom read "I love you from my head to my toes!"
